FBR Staff Writer Published 05 March 2014

Barcode and RFID labeling software provider NiceLabel has developed a new platform to assist food suppliers comply with the new EU Food Labeling regulation.

The new solution, which generates smart labels, is claimed to allow manufacturers to automatically highlight allergens, meet the regulation requirements without modifying their existing databases or purchasing new printers.

It is suitable for applications, including bakery, sandwich, delicatessen, and other retail and catering segments.

NiceLabel global marketing director Ken Moir said, "The NiceLabel food allergens solution produces labels which automatically and clearly emphasize the 14 substances listed within the EU regulations and also have the flexibility for related words to be highlighted as desired.

"Once implemented, the database of allergens and related descriptors is easily maintained, also in the case of multi-lingual labels. NiceLabel is unique in that it allows users with no programming knowledge to create their own printing solutions."

Food manufacturers, sellers or importers in the EU market are required to comply with the new EU food regulation from 13 December 2014.

The rule mandates mentioning information, including the name of the food, list of ingredients and net quantity on the food package or label.

Established in 1993, NiceLabel offers label design, error-free manual printing, automated labeling from other applications and cloud hosted web printing services.
